HOW IT ALL STARTED
At The Kala Foundation, our journey into the world of art and creativity began with a rich and illustrious heritage. Rooted in the vibrant city of Jaipur, Rajasthan, and fueled by a deep passion for artistic expression, our story is a blend of tradition and innovation.
The foundation of our artistic legacy can be traced back to our founder, Ajay Varma. Born on November 11th, 1986, in the Pink City itself, Ajay Varma hails from a family deeply immersed in the world of art. His grandfather, Gyarsilal Varma, shared a special connection with the legendary artist K G Subramanyan during their time at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. This connection with such an iconic figure in the art world left an indelible mark on Ajay Varma’s artistic sensibilities.
Ajit Varma, Ajay’s father, is also a renowned artist in his own right, further enriching the artistic heritage that runs through the Varma family. Ajay’s journey, however, began in the realm of IT, where he dedicated 14 years of his professional life. But art was always in his blood, calling out to him with an irresistible allure.
In 2023, Ajay decided to embark on a new path, transitioning his career into the world of art, with a particular focus on Digital Photography Painting. This transformative decision gave birth to GK Varma Kala Foundation.
Our goal is simple yet profound – to nurture and promote art in all its forms. We are committed to providing a platform where artists can showcase their talents through online and offline group shows, workshops, camps, and various other creative avenues. We believe in the power of art to inspire, evoke emotion, and create connections that transcend boundaries.

We curate and host both online and offline group exhibitions, giving artists a global audience. We offer workshops and art camps for aspiring artists, fostering their skills and creative exploration. The Kala Foundation is a profound love for art and a deep appreciation for its transformative power. Growing up in a family steeped in artistic tradition, with my grandfather Gyarsilal Varma and my father Ajit Varma as artists, art is an integral part of my identity. Their association with the iconic K G Subramanyan further instilled in me a sense of the limitless possibilities within the world of creativity.
Having spent 14 years in the IT industry, I witnessed the incredible impact of technology. However, my heart always belonged to art. It’s the beauty of self-expression, the emotions it evokes, and the connections it forges that fuel my passion. I believe art transcends boundaries, cultures, and languages, and it has the power to inspire, heal, and unite.
The Kala Foundation is born out of a desire to create a platform for artists to shine, for art to flourish, and for individuals to experience the profound joy of artistic expression. It’s a bridge between tradition and innovation, a canvas for creativity, and a means to share the love of art with the world. Art is in my blood, and through this organization, I hope to celebrate its boundless potential and bring it to the forefront of our collective consciousness.
